MARYS HOPE FOR ELDERLY

Mary’s Hope for Elderly is a non-profit, community-based organization established in 2020 in Karai, Kikuyu, Kiambu county, to support and care for elderly individuals aged 70 and above. The organization is named in honor of Mary Wanjiku Ngugi, a woman whose life and experiences embody the mission and values of the initiative.
Mary dedicated her life to her family, the church, and serving others, often visiting the sick and elderly. As a subsistence farmer, she worked tirelessly but had no savings to rely on in her later years.
In her old age, Mary faced numerous challenges. Her health deteriorated, and she suffered from loneliness, depression, arthritis, hypertension, and diabetes. Her inability to socialize as she once had compounded these struggles, especially as her strength waned and her social circle diminished. Although she received regular medical care, the lack of meaningful social interaction remained a significant challenge, greatly impacting her overall well-being. Mary passed away in February 2018, leaving behind a legacy that emphasizes the importance of social connections and personal development in aging gracefully.
Inspired by her mother’s story, Trish Wangui, founded Mary’s Hope for the Elderly. As the organization’s Founder and Director, Trish is dedicated to addressing the unique social and health challenges faced by elderly individuals. Through its programs, Mary’s Hope for Elderly provides care, companionship, and a sense of community, ensuring seniors can live their later years with dignity and joy.

To envision a society where elderly individuals thrive, embracing happiness, good health, and active lifestyles through community support and meaningful engagement

We mobilize and encourage the elderly to join the existing supportive groups to socialize and support one another.

We mentor the elderly to enhance their personal, social, and economic well-being.

We care for the sick and vulnerable elderly by visiting them in their homes, providing food to those in need, and addressing other general needs.

Projected growth
To empower the elderly to actively engage in community affairs and participate in activities that promote their personal growth and socio-economic development.
We warmly invite our generous supporters, both locally and internationally, to join us in realizing our vision of a brighter future for the elderly in our community. Together, we can create meaningful change by focusing on three key initiatives:
1. Empowering the Elderly: Implementing income-generating activities in their respective groups to foster independence, self-reliance, and dignity.
2. Building a Modern Rescue Centre: Establishing a safe and welcoming haven for severely neglected elderly individuals and those rescued from the streets, offering comprehensive care, unwavering support, and essential services to restore their dignity and well-being.
3. Providing Ongoing Care: Delivering continuous support to the most vulnerable, including access to nutritious food, healthcare, and essential resources.
With your support, we can make a lasting and transformative impact on the lives of our elderly population.

We are appealing for food stuff: maize flour, rice, cereals, cooking oil, clothes and blankets. Giving elderly basic needs can have a great impact in society. We can donate our resources to help the elderly in need by making an elderly smile again.
Transforming the landscape of aging in the country, creating a society where the elderly are valued, supported, and empowered to live their best lives. Through our unwavering commitment to compassion, enrichment, advocacy, financial sustainability, and community engagement, we strive to become a beacon of hope and a catalyst for positive change in the lives of senior citizens across Kenya.
